If it weren't real life cruelty but rather a work of fiction, this entire Potatogate ordeal would be hilarious. As it stands, it's obviously appalling. But it's sitcom-level unhinged, the kind of thing I couldn't have imagined a real-life person actually doing. I'm sorry you had to go through this. I don't think you're to blame for any of it. Some people are really good at hiding their red flags. I guess it's because they really do believe themselves to be 'helpful' and, in their twisted vision of the world, this is what qualifies as 'tough love' or some BS. In any case, I think blocking them was the only reasonable thing you could've done. I don't believe there's a way to reason with someone who's idea of help involves attempting to force drastic lifestyle changes upon other people.
